| The Morganton Aggies were able to pull out a dramatic victory on Sunday night against the Spartanburg Blue Eagles at Wofford College. Andrew Schrock (Mt. Saint Mary's) started for the Aggies and went 5 1/3 innings while giving up 2 runs. Schrock was able to escape some trouble in a few innings with the help of some double plays. Aaron Haynes (Gardner-Webb) came in the game in the 5th inning with 1 out and a runner at second base. Haynes was able to get out of the inning after allowing a RBI single to right field that gave Spartanburg a 2-0 lead. The Aggies finally got on the board in the 7th on back-to-back singles from Travis Creel (Southern Miss.) and Zeke Blanton (Gardner-Webb) to put runners at 1st and 3rd for the Aggies. Heath Lock (Ga. Southwestern) doubled to left field to score Creel to make it 2-1. Brad Hook walked to load the bases and Zach Pou (Pfeiffer University) was hit by a pitch to tie the game at 2-2. The Aggies and Blue Eagles stayed quiet offensively until the bottom of the 8th. The Blue Eagles started the 8th with a single and the runner moved to 2nd base on a sac bunt. The next batter grounded out to Preston Lyon but the runner advanced to 3rd base. The Aggies brought Chris Crane (Baton Rouge CC) into the game with 2 outs in the 8th but the Blue Eagles batter hit a RBI double to give them a 3-2 lead going to the 9th. Zeke Blanton (Gardner-Webb) led off the inning with an infield single. Heath Lock (Ga. Southwestern) sac bunted to put Blanton at second base. On the 2nd pitch of the at-bat to Samson Williams (St. Andrews Presbyterian), Blanton stole third base. Williams would split the right field gap on the next pitch for a RBI triple. Brad Hook (South Alabama) scored Williams with a sac fly to right field to give the Aggies a 4-3 lead. Zach Pou (Pfeiffer University) doubled to extend the inning and would come around to score on Preston Lyon's (Pfeiffer University) RBI single to left field to make it 5-3 heading to the bottom of the 9th inning. Chris Crane (Baton Rouge CC) pitched a scoreless 9th inning to improve the Aggies to 8-4 on the season. The Aggies return to action on Monday at Asheville and will be back at home on Wednesday against the Lake Norman Copperheads. |
