| The Morganton Aggies swept a DH on Saturday night from the SCBL leader Tennessee Tornado. The Aggies swung the bats well in the first game and got another great pitching peformance from Paxton King (Southern Miss.) to beat Tennessee 10-3. King pitched only allowed 1 run in 6 2/3 innings while giving up 3 hits and striking out 6 Tennessee Tornado hitters. Matt Watson (Barton College) and Matt Crane (Baton Rouge CC) finished the game for the Aggies. The Aggies took a 1-0 lead in the first but would explode offensively unitl the 3rd inning. In the 3rd inning, Heath Lock (Ga. Southwestern) drew a walk and Samson Williams (St. Andrews Presbyterian) followed with a single. Brad Hook (South Alabama) would then reach on an error before Zach Pou (Pfeiffer University) delivered a 2 RBI double. Jake Loye (Averett University) followed with a 2 RBI double to left field to give the Aggies a 5-0 lead after 3 innings. In the 4th, the Aggies added another run off a triple by Lock and a double by Williams to make it 6-0. The Aggies offense would explode again in the 5th inning to pull away from the Tornado. Pou and Killoren (Eckerd College) produced back-to-back doubles to make it 7-0. Preston Lyon (Pfeiffer University) and Zeke Blanton (Gardner-Webb) got back-to-back singles and the Tornado made a throwing error to make it 9-0. Heath Lock would drive in Blanton for the final run of the night. Paxton King (Southern Miss.) held the Tornado scoring until the 6th inning when they pushed across a run to make it 10-1. The Tornado would added two runs in the 7th inning off Aggies walks. The Aggies were led offensively by Samson Williams, Heath Lock and Zach Pou. In Game 2, the Aggies were able to come from behind to get a victory on the night after managing only 3 hits on the night. Jordan Pace (Presbyterain College) pitched 6 innings for the Aggies while giving up 9 hits and striking out 4 batters. Dale Mullis (Averett University) threw a scorless 7th inning after an inning ending 1-6-3 double play. Tennesee took the lead early after scoring one run in each of the first 3 innings. The Aggies answered back in the 2nd inning after Pou reached on an error and Lyon singled, Aaron Haynes (Gardner-Webb) prodcued a sac fly to right field to cut the lead to 3-1. Tennesse would push the lead to 4-1 in the 4th inning but the Aggies answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. After 2 outs in the 4th inning, Haynes reached on a walk and Loye singled up the middle to put runners at first and second. Zeke Blanton drew a walk to load the bases and set the stage for Heath Lock. Lock singled to right field with 2 strikes to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Aggies offense would stay quiet until the bottom of the 7th inning. Zeke Blanton walked to lead off the inning and was followed by a bunt single from Lock. Williams bunted the ball back to the pitcher and Blanton was forced out at 3rd base. Brad Hook (South Alabama) then hit a groundball to the second baseman but he made an errant throw to the shortstop. Lock and Williams both came around to score on the throw and gave the Aggies the victory 5-4. The Aggies will play their next two games on the road before returning to Shuey Field on Wednesday night in a single game against the Lake Norman Copperheads. |
