The Morganton Aggies were able to improve their record to 4-3 this season with an 8-5 victory over the Carolina Stingers on Monday night at Shuey Field. Jordan Pace (Presbyterian College) got the start for the Aggies tonight. The Stingers got on the board first with 3 runs in the 1st inning with the help of 2 Aggies errors. The Aggies answered right back in the bottom half of the 1st inning with 4 runs. Zeke Blanton (Gardner-Webb University) tripled to lead off the game and scored on a RBI single from Heath Lock (Ga. Southwestern University). Oliver Killoren (Eckerd College) singled and Brad Hook (South Alabama) walked to load the bases. Zach Pou hit a slow roller to 3rd base that scored Lock. The Aggies would finish the scoring in the first on back-to-back sacrifice flys from Eric Chiz (NC A&T) and Jake Loye (Averett University). The Stingers took the lead again in the top of the second inning off a couple of hits and another Aggies error. Jordan Pace settled in after the 2nd inningn to hold the Stingers offense at bay. Pace threw five innings on the night while giving up 5 hits and striking out 5. The Aggies were able to tie the game in the bottom half of the 5th inning with a lead-off walk to Heath Lock. Lock would advance to 3rd base on an error by the pitcher. Zach Pou (Pfeiffer University) drove him in with two outs with a single to right field. Dale Mullis (Averett University) shut down the Stingers offense the next 3 innings to allow the Aggies offense to get the lead. Mullis finished the night with 3 strikeouts while only allowing 2 hits. The Aggies would get the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning with some help from the Stingers. Jake Loye (Averett University) walked to lead-off the inning and advanced on a groundout by Aaron Haynes (Gardner-Webb University). Loye would come around to score on a throwing error by the second baseman that come off the bat of Ricky Vaughn (SCAD). Zeke Blanton and Heath Lock would obtain back-to-back walks to load the bases for the Aggies. Brad Hook would drive in Vaughn and Blanton with a two out single to right field. After Mullis shut down the Stingers til the 8th, Zack Horne (Belmont-Abbey) would pick up the save to preserve the Aggies victory on a wet, rainy night. Brad Hook (South Alabama) and Zach Pou each had two hits on the night for the Aggies. The Aggies return to action on Wednesday night @ Wofford College against the Spartanburg Blue Eagles. The Aggies will return home Saturday night in a DH against the Tennessee Tornado.
