The Lake Norman Copperheads opened the 2010 summer in Morganton taking on the Aggies and came away with a 6-2 win.  The Aggies opened the scoring with a solo homerun in the first off of Copperhead starter Will Helms (Appalachian State).  Helms settled in to only allow one more hit in his three innings of work.  The Copperheads got on the board to take the lead in the 4th when C.A. Clayton (UNC Asheville) opened the inning with a single followed by a two-run home run by Ryan Stetson (Appalachian State).  Jordan Darnell (Elon) took the mound for the Copperheads in the 4th and struck out five, while only allowing one hit and one unearned run in his four innings of work.  In the top of the eight, the Copperheads pushed two more runs across on 2-out RBI double off the bat of Tyler Horan (Virginia Tech).  That would be all the bullpen needed to close the door.  Tanner Merrit (East Carolina) threw a scoreless 8th.  In the top of the ninth, Ryan Stetson added another RBI once again scoring Clayton on a double down the line.  He took third and then scored on a Tony Montalbano (UNC Charlotte) sac fly.  Brantly Hattrich (UNC Pembroke) threw a scoreless 9th to seal the win for the Copperheads.

The Copperheads will return to Lake Norman tonight for their home opener, once again taking on the Morganton Aggies.  Game time is set for 7:00 at Hopewell High School
