The Redbirds started the season opener at home last night against the Pineville Pioneers. Asheville had a nice crowd of 122 fans on hand. The game started with Pineville scoring 1 in the top of the first, but Asheville would answer in the bottom of the first with a leadoff single by Kevin Price. A steal and a passed ball would move Price to third. Phillip Treadway walked to put runners at the corners with one out. As Treadway attempted to steal second, a missed played ball by Pioneers short stop, Seth Illian, would have the ball end up in center field, Price scored easily from third to tie the game at 1 apiece. In the bottom of the second, a double by Eric Renegar and a nice hit off of the center field wall by Kevin Price would help Asheville to score 4 more. Asheville would add 1 more in the seventh inning. Pineville tried to rally with a run in the top of the eighth, but would fall well short as the Redbirds take the home opener 6-2.
Next game is Wednesday at home against the Statesville Owls. Game time 7:00pm
