The Lake Norman Copperheads would like to congratulate Alex Hill of UNC Wilmington on being named CAA Rookie-of-the-Week. The following is the press release from uncwsports.com.
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman Alex Hill (Charlotte, N.C./Vance) was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie-of-the-Week after helping lead UNC Wilmington to a 4-1 mark, including a weekend sweep of non-conference foe New York Tech.
Hill started three of the four games he played in and responded by hitting .400 (4-10) over those games. More impressive was his patience at the plate where he collected seven walks and compiled a .647 on base average. Hill scored eight runs from his leadoff spot in the lineup.
On Wednesday against North Carolina Central, Hill moved into the starting lineup and proceeded to set the tone with three walks, a pair of stolen bases and scored a career-high three runs. Hill followed that performance with a pair of hits, including a double, and scored four runs in a series-opening 13-6 win over NY Tech on Friday.
Hill becomes the second Seahawk freshman to earn the weekly honor, joining lefthanded pitcher Cameron Roth, who was tabbed by the conference back on Mar. 25. Overall, UNCW has had seven players combine for eight CAA honors this season.
The Seahawks, who tote an impressive 33-9-1 mark and have been ranked as high at 17th in the nation this season, return to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start against long time rival East Carolina in a key non-conference game for both teams.
