The Davidson Copperheads won three of the four games they played against the Carolina Sox this weekend in SCBL action.  Game one went down to the wire.  With the Copperheads trailing 5-4 going into the bottom half of the sixth, they got the big hit they needed.  After a leadoff walk by Zack Pou, Kevin Glass hit a two-run  shot into the woods in left field to give the Copperheads a 6-5 lead.  That was all that Chris Powell would need to record the save.  Relief pitcher Kelly McLain picked up the win.  Kevin Farnsworth led all hitters going 3-3 with a double and triple.

Game two also ended in dramatic fashion.  It was pitchers dual all the way.  Starter Chad Jenkins went four innings not allowing a hit or run.  Andy Oliver then followed him in the fifth and gave up one run.  It looked as if that would be enough for the Sox as their staff held the Copperheads scoreless through 6 innings.  In the bottom of the seventh, Devin Harris and Jerod Faggart led off the inning with back to back singles to put runners at first and second with no outs.  Kurt Fulginiti then laid down a sac bunt.  The pitcher threw his attempt to get the runner at third into left field scoring Harris.  With runners at 2nd and 3rd and no outs, the Sox went to the pen.  The reliever was welcomed by a suicide squeeze on his first pitch which was executed perfectly by Mark Drucker and pinch runner Mark Perry.  That would give the Copperheads the 2-1 win.  Andy Oliver recorded the win for the Copperheads.

In game 3, the Copperheads were there own worst enemy.  The pitching staff gave up 5 walks, hit 3 batters and the defense made 3 errors as the Sox topped the Copperheads 6-2.  Jerod Faggart hit his first homerun on the season for the Copperheads.  Mark Perry and Jordan Pellien recorded two hits each.  Dusty White took his first loss for the Copperheads.

In game 4, the Copperheads came out swinging as they scored in all seven innings taking a 12-7 win.  The Copperheads pounded out 16 hits on the night led by Jake Faggart and Johnny Dangerfield who had three hits each.  Devin Harris hit his third homerun on the season and drove in three runs.  Kelly McLain got his second win of the weekend throwing 6 2/3 innings allowing only two runs on four hits while striking out nine and walking zero.

The Copperheads will return to action on Monday night at Davidson College as they take on the Tennessee Tornado.  Game time is set for 7:00 PM.  Brett Richardson will get the start for the Copperheads.
